Every day, I get the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of 1st graders at a Title 1 school in the Charlotte area. As the majority of our school's population consists of multi-language learners and students from lower income backgrounds, many of the students coming in each day are just beginning their exposure of the English language and/or they rely on school to be a consistent routine in their day to day lives. By being able to provide this for them is a gift in itself, as a classroom environment not only provides them with stability but also allows them to learn through exploration, collaboration and communication. It is so incredibly important for these students to not only learn social skills, but to also build foundational academic skills to help them reach success in the future.

About my class
