I was able to give pencils and folders to those kids so they at least had something for all of their papers.\r\n\r\nAnd the testing treats were an added bonus. We started MAP testing today (on the fifth day of school!), and my students' eyes lit up when I met them at the door with blow pops. Tomorrow we will have dum dum's and smarties. The students enjoy picking what color of lighting they can use each day. \r\n They are also enjoying the new library book series for read aloud when they have fidget time/movement breaks.\r\n My personal favorite are the Medusa lamps because we can reduce the lighting in the classroom, use just the lamps and bubblers and natural sunlight, and create a very mellow mood, which benefits our Neurodiverse learners, who either need something to watch in order to calm themselves, or benefit from the lighting itself. The fluorescent light covers also helped the room to be colorful, yet neutral.","fullyFundedDate":1783347804728,"projectUrl":"project/calm-sensory-based-environment-needed-f/10357734/","projectTitle":"Calm, Sensory-based Environment Needed for At-risk Youth","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hoskins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5953826_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1782746173611","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5953826"},{"teacherId":5953826,"projectId":10359191,"letterContent":"thank you so much for helping me to continue building a library that meets my students reading and interest levels at the same time. At the end of each class period,, I give them 5 to 7 minutes of movement/fidget breaks, and do read aloud, which still stimulates their mind while stimulating their bodies. For each class I read a different book so that nobody has to hear the same story twice as some children have me more than once a day. They are totally into the characters, which makes me happy because I now have series of books so once I finish the first book in a series, they can check out the other books through my book loan program. Thank you again for helping to make this a reality. Putting hands on a physical book is so different from seeing it on a computer screen... Which is what they already see all day long. Your generosity will reach further than you can imagine with this group of kids who rarely get priority items, the newest of the new curriculum, etc. I did not take pictures of children reading the books because I felt that was a violation of their personal rights and didn't know where parents stood on it, but I do have pictures of the books themselves.","fullyFundedDate":1783227580910,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-classroom-library-building-li/10359191/","projectTitle":"Creating a Classroom Library Building Literacy, Engagement, and Lifelong Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hoskins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5953826_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1782746173611","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5953826"},{"teacherId":10114293,"projectId":10229400,"letterContent":"My students were so excited when they first saw the new math posters displayed around the classroom. Students often reference them when solving problems, checking steps, or explaining their thinking to classmates. One of my favorite moments was during a review activity when a student independently walked over to a poster to help solve a problem instead of immediately asking for help. Because of you, my students have access to books they are genuinely excited to read, and that has made a powerful difference in our room.\r\n\r\nThese books are being used in our book clubs, which are one of the most meaningful parts of our day. Students were able to choose books that interested them, and that choice alone has increased their motivation and engagement. Instead of feeling like reading is something they have to do, many of my students now look forward to it. They settle in quickly, open their books, and get right to reading.\r\n\r\nDuring book club time, students read together, talk about what is happening in their books, and share their thinking with one another. I see students making connections, asking questions, and helping each other understand the text. These conversations have helped build both their confidence and their comprehension.\r\n\r\nWe also use Thinking Tables in our classroom, where students work together to write about their reading using claim, evidence, and reasoning. The books you provided give them meaningful content to think deeply about. I have watched students who once struggled to write now share thoughtful ideas and support them with evidence from their books.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, these books have helped create a positive classroom community. Students are recommending books to each other, celebrating when they finish a chapter, and encouraging their peers. There is a sense of pride and ownership that was not there before.\r\n\r\nYour donation did more than provide books.
