My orchestral students have enjoyed an amazing grade 4 through 12 traditional program with a longstanding heritage. They have all worked hard to learn their craft and have created memorable orchestral performances for audience and performer alike. My hope, with this project, is to broaden the horizon of their musical experience with a twist on the traditional. I am very excited about the possibility of introducing my orchestral students to the world of Electric Instruments and the many possibilities they can afford! A single electric violin can create the sound of an entire ensemble (I hesitate to use the word "band" here) through the use of a loop pedal, recording and layering multiple tracks. A quartet of electric instruments can provide entertainment rivaling the jazz cats down the hall! I can't help but imagine the awe in the faces of 75 third graders when, at a recruitment concert, a sixth grade student opens their case to reveal an electric violin. Every year, my sixth grade orchestra tours the 5 local elementary schools, performing for the current third grade class in hopes that many of the students will find inspiration in what creativity can be achieved in 3 short years of practice.
