Right now my students do not have the opportunity to learn any type of computer coding or interact with robots. As special education students they are not able to attend these classes and are therefore just plain stuck! I want to launch them forward with the LEGO WeDo 2.0. As a teacher I know that hands-on learning will engage my students on many levels, sparking their creativity, developing their critical thinking skills, igniting possible careers. With the LEGO WeDo 2.0 my students will bring to life 280 building elements. This will motivate them to collaborate, build, problem-solve, and explore. But they need even more to deepen their STEAM learning and help them develop 21st-century skills. Using LEGO bricks to make contraptions, gadgets, and chain reactions will expand their STEAM experiences. The combination of using physical LEGO bricks to build, standards-aligned activities, and block-based coding means that interactive, creative learning will be achieved in my classroom in a way we have not been able to do before. Students will be able to see their builds in action and test and refine their problem-solving skills!
