When the supplies arrived, the students were immediately excited to see the bags of sand, pumice rocks, chalk, and even the hard candy we would use to model erosion and weathering. Many of them could not believe they were going to get to experiment with the same kinds of materials scientists use to study how land changes over time.\r\n\r\nDuring our investigations, students used sand and water to model how rivers and rain slowly shape landforms. They observed how water moved the sand and created valleys and channels, and they carefully recorded what they noticed in their science journals. The pumice rocks, chalk, and hard candy helped us model different types of rocks and how they can break down over time. Watching the materials change right in front of them helped students understand concepts like erosion and weathering in a way that reading about it alone never could.\r\n\r\nThe printer toner also allowed me to create clear lab sheets, diagrams, and recording pages so students could track their observations like real scientists. This helped them practice important skills like making careful observations, drawing scientific diagrams, and explaining their thinking.\r\n\r\nNext, students will use what they learned from these investigations to explain how certain landforms, like cliffs and valleys, are created and changed over time. They will apply their observations to new examples and continue thinking about how water, wind, and natural processes shape the Earth.\r\n\r\nYour support helped turn an abstract science topic into a hands-on experience my students will remember.
