We were off to a great start this fall using the Learning Resources Giant Magnetic array set. The first chapter in our Math curriculum was the introduction to arrays and how that relates to multiplication. I used the giant magnetic array set to teach the concept and provide large visual examples for students to see. Right now we are moving into place value and double digit addition and subtraction. I am currently using the Simply Magic Jumbo Magnetic base 10 blocks place value materials to model. I have also allowed students to use the materials in centers, and they have enjoyed that. \r\n\r\nOur calendar time is so much better with the Really Good Stuff number of the day pocket chart. We practice the skills of writing the number word, using tally marks, number order and place value daily. The Trend Enterprises Money Chart helps me stay focused on what the kids need to know about money. The Math strategy posters are up for students to refer to when problem solving. The desk dividers come in handy to create \"private offices,\" during assessment times. The kids love them. \r\n\r\nI am feeling so much better about my student's ability to show what they know on the math mid-year assessments.
