Your thoughtful gift has already brought new energy, excitement, and opportunities for learning into our classroom. What may seem like a simple set of boards and yarn has become a powerful tool for creativity, patience, and discovery.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, weaving is a brand-new experience. In today's fast-paced, digital world, opportunities to slow down and engage in a hands-on, mindful process are rare. Weaving offers that space. The moment students pick up their boards, thread the yarn, and begin moving the weft over and under the warp, they become completely immersed in the process. They are not only making art but also building concentration, problem-solving skills, and resilience. Each woven piece is a reminder that beautiful things can be created one step at a time.\r\n\r\nBefore your donation, our weaving projects were limited. We often had to improvise with makeshift looms, which could be frustrating for students who wanted to explore fiber art more deeply. Now, with proper weaving boards, students have the tools they need to fully experience the joy of this traditional art form. They can experiment with color combinations, patterns, and textures, and they can see their progress unfold row by row. This sense of achievement has been uplifting to watch.\r\n\r\nWeaving has also opened up opportunities for cross-curricular learning. As students weave, they practice mathematical concepts like patterns, symmetry, and measurement. They also gain cultural awareness, as we discuss how weaving is a practice that connects us to communities around the world and to centuries of history. The tactile process of pulling yarn through the loom gives them a direct link to the creativity of generations past, while also helping them see how their own work fits into a broader artistic tradition.","fullyFundedDate":1746544702990,"projectUrl":"project/under-over-all-the-fun/9200896/","projectTitle":"Under & Over All The Fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Davidson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4607935_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689031588833","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrssdavidson"},{"teacherId":4607935,"projectId":9470349,"letterContent":"On behalf of my art students and myself, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of Sharpies to our classroom. What may seem like a simple contribution of markers has already begun to create an extraordinary impact in our learning environment. Your gift is helping our students explore their creativity, build confidence, and discover new ways of expressing themselves through art.\r\n\r\nFor many of our students, art is more than just a subject—it is a safe place where they can communicate feelings, ideas, and dreams that might otherwise go unspoken. Having access to quality materials like Sharpies allows them to bring their visions to life with vibrant, permanent lines that stand out boldly on the page. These markers encourage precision, experimentation, and a sense of pride in the finished work. Something as small as the weight of a marker in their hand reminds them that their ideas matter and deserve to be expressed with permanence.\r\n\r\nBefore your donation, many of our supplies were worn down, mismatched, or shared between too many students. That often left students frustrated and limited in how they could express their creativity. Your Sharpies have changed that. Each student now has the chance to create work with tools that respond to their imagination. I have already seen students experimenting with layering colors, bold outlines, and unique lettering styles that give their projects a professional finish. The difference in both the quality of their artwork and the joy they bring to the process has been inspiring to witness.\r\n\r\nBeyond the technical aspects of art, your gift also helps nurture important life skills. When students use Sharpies to design posters, illustrate projects, or create original artwork, they practice patience, attention to detail, and persistence. They also learn that with the right tools, they can push their creative boundaries and achieve results they never thought possible. This sense of accomplishment carries over into other areas of their education and lives.\r\n\r\nOne of the most moving parts of this donation has been seeing how proud the students are to share their creations. Sharpies have allowed them to make artwork that feels complete and polished, which has given them the confidence to present their projects to classmates, teachers, and family members. For some students who may struggle in other academic areas, art provides a way to shine, and your generosity has amplified that light.","fullyFundedDate":1755716634937,"projectUrl":"project/trace-to-the-best/9470349/","projectTitle":"T’race’ to the Best!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Davidson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4607935_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689031588833","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrssdavidson"},{"teacherId":4005217,"projectId":8975642,"letterContent":"I am deeply appreciative to all the generous donors who brought this project to life. In recent years, I look forward to matches because they often allow me to self-finance a project. However, when I saw a surprise donation from an unnamed person in Georgia, I knew it was my wonderful friend, Mrs. Spiva! Thank you for providing and encouraging the gift of literacy to our classroom! \r\n\r\nYour donation allowed us to provide each student with a mathematics workbook to practice their skills in multiplication and division. Each student also received a book to add to their personal reading collection. These titles came from popular book series, including Dog Man, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Bad Guys, Nocturnals, Adventures in Babysitting, Dork Diaries, and Raina Telgemeier books. \r\n\r\nThe students had no idea they were receiving these gifts prior to the winter break. All of their books, along with special bookmarks and other surprises, were placed on their desks. As they entered the classroom, seeing the joy on their faces was priceless! While it was evident that they loved everything that they received, each student shared that their individual book was just right for them. Many of these titles are new to students and it has been encouraging to see their parents purchase additional books in the series, which students now bring to school to read.\r\n\r\nI strive to foster an environment in which reading books is a meaningful and worthwhile task. It was so adorable.\r\n\r\nThis year we discovered, investigated and created our own Geodses. A geode is a geological secondary formation within sedimentary and volcanic rocks. Geodes are hollow, vaguely spherical rocks, in which masses of mineral matter (which may include crystals) are secluded. The crystals are formed by the filling of vesicles in volcanic and subvolcanic rocks by minerals deposited from hydrothermal fluids; or by the dissolution of syn-genetic concretions and partial filling by the same or other minerals precipitated from water, groundwater, or hydrothermal fluids.\r\n \r\nThe way we are making our geodes is a basic pinch pot, adding texture and glaze for color and then finally adding glass to melt and crack in the kiln as I fire them.
