Throughout this past year, my first graders have had many changes in their school environment. Many of my students are attending a brick and mortar school building for the first time. I want to give them a peaceful place that will put them in the right frame of mind and give them the opportunity to read books at their level. My classroom has a camping theme, so setting up a reading area with a camping themed rug and flexible seating will bring a comfortable and designated area for my students to read and learn. These books plus the new seating area will create a safe and healthy in-person learning environment that is conducive to students’ social emotional and academic development.
Having books that are on my student's individual level will build their confidence in reading. It will also and help them master the Nevada State Standard 1.RF.3-Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words . They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
I have already seen so much growth in my students since we are able to be in school full time. I know that these books and having a special area for them to read in , will help them soar in my classroom in an exciting space called "Camp Read-a-Lot!!
