For my students with extensive support needs, having a designated and comfortable learning space helps make our classroom feel predictable, safe, and inviting.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new carpet, they were so excited! Several students immediately wanted to sit on it, and some explored the different areas of the carpet with smiles and laughter. It quickly became one of their favorite places in the classroom. Seeing their excitement reminded me how something as simple as a comfortable learning space can have such a positive impact on students.\r\n\r\nOne special classroom moment was during our literacy lesson when we gathered on the carpet to read a story together. Students practiced identifying pictures, answering questions, using their communication devices, and taking turns with their classmates. The carpet gave us the space to sit together as a group while still allowing students to feel comfortable and regulated.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using the carpet as a central part of our literacy and social-emotional learning activities. We are working on building communication, increasing participation and independence, practicing classroom routines, and developing early academic skills. We will continue creating opportunities for students to learn through stories, songs, movement, visuals, and hands-on activities. With the help of your generous donation, however, students were once again able to explore watercolor painting and practice these important techniques. One memorable moment occurred when students discovered how colors could mix directly on the paper to create entirely new shades. Their excitement and sense of accomplishment were evident as they experimented with techniques used by professional artists.\r\n\r\nWhen the watercolor paper arrived, students were eager to begin creating. Many were amazed by how fast we got the materials since the incident and immediately started discussing ideas for future projects. The supplies sparked curiosity, creativity, and engagement throughout the classroom.
