We are already using the magnetic letters to identify and match letters, learn letter sounds, and build words. Each student in my primary autism classroom has their own unique learning goals that they are working on and materials like these help so much. My students need to be able to touch and manipulate and move around the materials in order to learn. They also need constant reinforcers to stay engaged in their learning and working one-on-one. \r\n\r\nThe spinning chair and paw patrol finger puppets, the hand fidget, rubber chickens, and other toys are very desirable reinforcers and help me so much in getting my students to work on tasks that help them learn. We are using the hands-on literacy, math, writing, and sensory resources throughout the school day during small-group instruction, independent work, and learning centers. The letter, CVC word, sentence, number, and tracing activities are giving my students additional opportunities to practice important foundational skills in an engaging and interactive way. The sensory seating and fidgets are also being used to provide movement and sensory input when students need support regulating their bodies and preparing to learn.\r\n\r\nIt has been wonderful watching my students explore the materials and become excited about learning. Because many of my students learn best by seeing, touching, moving, and practicing skills repeatedly, these resources allow them to actively participate instead of relying only on traditional paper-and-pencil activities. I have already seen how motivating it can be for a student to complete a hands-on activity, recognize that they were successful, and want to do it again.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building on these foundational skills as students become more independent. We will continue working on letter sounds, CVC words, early reading and comprehension, number recognition, counting, pre-writing and writing skills, communication, appropriate choices, and self-regulation.
