I'll never forget the joy on my students' faces when they first saw the new dramatic play items, especially the grocery store counter and dress-up kits. They immediately began acting out scenes, using more language and social interaction than I had seen before. One of my nonverbal students even surprised us all by pretending to be a cashier and spontaneously using the word \"money\"—a truly magical moment.\r\n\r\nWe've also started incorporating sensory tools like vibrating pillows and swings into our daily routine, and I've noticed a clear improvement in focus and emotional regulation. These tools have helped some of my students with autism feel calmer and more ready to learn. Moving forward, we'll continue to use these resources across subjects—building stronger language skills through play, reinforcing math concepts with manipulatives, and creating durable learning materials with the laminating sheets that can be reused for years.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and the power of hands-on, inclusive education. However, with summer break comes summer school for our students that need an extended school year in order to not lose the learning they've worked so hard to accomplish this year.\r\nAs I tended our beautiful, growing school garden during the ESY summer school session I had the privilege of observing students and their ESY teachers enjoying the garden every day. Students collected data on plants and insects found in the garden. They drew plants and insects in the garden and the beautiful benches you helped to provide added to the enjoyment and comfort found by all. Several students are not physically strong and having a safe place to sit really boosted their ability to enjoy the same space as their peers.\r\nBefore summer break our school's Green Team club student gardeners put together the new garden benches with the help of one of our trusted parent volunteers.\r\nThey immediately added a welcoming element to staff and students that had not visited the garden previously. The benches are so easy to move around the garden and our favorite place for them is right next to our little chicken run. The chickens and the students love to visit and our benches make this easy to do. Our counselors and admin have started to take students into the garden to experience a calmer environment to work through big feelings. Our admin is over the moon with the growth in our garden and even hope to help us expand! They are genuinely excited! This is something we have been hoping to provide for our school community.\r\nI admit, staff have started to enjoy the garden more for their morning cup of coffee, even!
