When the boxes first arrived and were opened during circle time, the room was filled with wide eyes and curious hands. For our students, new materials aren't just \"toys\"—they are new ways to understand the world. Seeing their faces light up as they touched the new math manipulatives for the first time was a reminder of how much a vibrant environment matters for their development.\r\n\r\nWe have already integrated these materials into our daily routines to support both academic and functional goals. Specifically, we have been using the new resources to create \"communication opportunities\" using our AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices. For example, during center time, students use their devices to request specific math enrichment tools or describe the colors and shapes they are holding. One of my favorite moments was seeing a student, who is usually very reserved, enthusiastically use their AAC device to ask for \"more\". It has turned math enrichment into a joyful, social experience.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps involve deepening our \"Math Foundations\" unit. We will be using the new materials to move from simple exploration to more complex tasks like sorting, patterning, and early addition.
