Our 12 Kindergarten-Second Grade classes look forward to our annual March Reading Brackets. Over the years we have explored several genres of books. This year, by far, has been one of our favorite years! The excitement the students have shown for this year's book selections is beyond compare.\r\nIt was this excitement that lead me to write this project. While we have enjoyed the fairy tales selected this year, most of us have been using YouTube videos as we've \"read\" them to our class. Nothing beats having a teacher read the story and then being able to explore a copy in physical form. By helping to fund this project, you have given us that opportunity!\r\nAs the books arrived, they were unboxed, labeled, and passed out to the 12 classrooms participating in our challenge. The teachers smiled and classes cheered. Days later teachers and students were still talking about how much it meant to have the books in their classrooms. \r\nIn my own classroom, I've watched student after student enter our Book Nook and take out our copy of the books. They will sit together and try to retell the story. They talk about their favorite parts and what made them enjoy the stories. If my 5 and 6 year old Kindergarten students are having these types of conversations, you can just imagine the types of conversations our first and second graders are having. \r\nThank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart for spreading the joy of reading to our wonderful students.","fullyFundedDate":1743085267376,"projectUrl":"project/the-fairest-stories-of-them-all/9175500/","projectTitle":"The Fairest Stories of Them All","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Holley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4333820_orig.jpg?crop=2100,2100,x0,y182&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722518902079","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/k-holley"},{"teacherId":4333820,"projectId":9051855,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom project, \"Hooked on Phonics Centers.\" Kindergarten is such an amazing year in terms of reading development. Many of my students enter not knowing any letters, or only knowing a few, and they grow into readers. A large part of that development comes from providing the students with hands on materials that allow them to explore and practice with alphabetic knowledge.\r\nOur \"Hooked on Phonics Centers\" project took our Spelling Space from old, outdated, laminated materials, to new, exciting and engaging materials! My students loved watching the materials being unboxed as they arrived at school. They couldn't wait to \"play\" at centers. What they didn't realize was as they were playing, they were really practicing encoding and decoding reading skills! Between gel boards, building bricks, dice, pop-its, Scrabble tiles and more, they spent days experimenting with their new materials. After the initial glow had worn off, they began using them to engage in authentic reading and writing practice.\r\nI could not be more grateful for your help in providing my students with these meaningful materials.","fullyFundedDate":1736989502986,"projectUrl":"project/hooked-on-phonics-centers/9051855/","projectTitle":"Hooked on Phonics Centers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Holley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4333820_orig.jpg?crop=2100,2100,x0,y182&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722518902079","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/k-holley"},{"teacherId":4333820,"projectId":9027305,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting our project, Tool Kits for Phonics Success. Last year our school started implementing a new phonics program. Right away we started seeing success with phonetic awareness and knowledge. We also noticed that our current manipulative materials were not going to stand up to everyday use. This project has provided my classroom with a new set of two-sided dry erase boards. These allow us to work without lines at the beginning of the year, and progress to lines for writing as our fine motor develops. The project also provided us with high quality erasers, extra dry erase markers, and storage options. Each student now has an individual bag complete with a board, eraser and marker. They are stored by groups in baskets to allow easy access during lessons. It has kept us organized and our lessons functional!\r\nI think one of the best things about having this project funded was watching my students as the boxes arrived. Every time our administrative assistant made a delivery to our room they got so excited we had to stop our lessons to open the box. They LOVED having boards that were paper sized rather than the mini boards we used to write on. Their engagement significantly improved when they began working with the materials in a size that was comfortable for them. Thank you for helping me provide that excitement for learning to my students.","fullyFundedDate":1736461019403,"projectUrl":"project/tool-kits-for-phonics-success/9027305/","projectTitle":"Tool Kits for Phonics Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Holley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4333820_orig.jpg?crop=2100,2100,x0,y182&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722518902079","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/k-holley"},{"teacherId":4333820,"projectId":9027380,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting our project, Put on Our Listening Ears. This project helped provide my kindergarten students with a brand-new set of child-sized headphones for us with our iPads. Each day we log into our district's technology programs to work on skill practice. We work with both math and reading within these apps. As we are so young, the apps read the questions to us. You can imagine the noise in the room when 20 or more children are on iPads with the volume on! We were dealing with sensory overload and practice time become a stressful part of the day.\r\nSince receiving our headphones and storage bags, each child has an assigned set of headphones (which helps with germs, too). We store our headphones and our password cards in the storage bags. Students are now able to log into the apps independently. They plug in their headphones, and they are able to concentrate on skill practice without distraction. The use of these headphones has made a world of difference for my entire class.\r\nThank you for supporting our project and our continued skill practice!","fullyFundedDate":1736794971788,"projectUrl":"project/put-on-your-listening-ears/9027380/","projectTitle":"Put On Your Listening Ears","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Holley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4333820_orig.jpg?crop=2100,2100,x0,y182&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722518902079","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/k-holley"},{"teacherId":4797097,"projectId":8902980,"letterContent":"I want to thank everyone for their generous donations.
