In a class where students are on so many different levels of reading, we often do not have enough materials to help each child. Reading is the building block of all subjects and my job as a first grade teacher is to help all of my students become fluent readers. I am requesting materials that would benefit a wide range of reading levels ensuring everyone is getting what they need. Specifically,, I am asking for eight different sets of leveled books, a set of hear-myself-phones, a classroom set of magnetic letters, reading trackers and reading pointers. . As part of our reading block, my students spend lots of time reading to me, reading to themselves or reading to a partner. This means that I need lots of books to choose from on each of their levels to ensure they are not reading books that are too easy or too hard. Our focus in first grade is fluency, comprehension and accuracy. These three areas cannot be touched upon without the necessary materials. The leveled books that I requested would be a great asset to our library. Not only are they leveled, but you receive multiple copies which benefits those during partner reading. The whisper phones, pointers and reading trackers are amazing reading tools that the students can use on any level to increase fluency. The magnetic letters are used to help students sound out words that they may get stuck on in a sentence. These are great tangible resources that they kids will love using. It helps to make reading fun.
