Each project was carefully selected to teach important sewing techniques while also reinforcing valuable life skills.\r\n\r\nThrough these projects, students learned how to:\r\n\r\nMeasure and cut fabric accurately\r\nSew straight seams\r\nAttach buttons\r\nInsert zippers\r\nUse specialty materials such as non-slip fabric\r\nFold and create pleats\r\nFollow step-by-step directions\r\nTroubleshoot and solve problems independently\r\n\r\nBeyond sewing, these activities helped students develop patience, perseverance, attention to detail, and confidence. We are currently using the markers and colored pencils to create detailed \"Historical Infographics\" about the Vietnam War and the political climate at home during the conflict. A standout moment occurred yesterday when a group of students, usually quiet during lectures, became deeply immersed in the creative aspect of the project. They used the varying shades of the new colored pencils to distinguish between different of pro and con sides during the vietnam war. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, the atmosphere in the room shifted instantly from routine to creative driven envirmoment. There was a collective \"ooh\" as they realized they no longer had to hunt for dried-out markers or broken stubs; seeing the fresh, organized sets of professional-grade pencils and stacks of crisp white poster boards made them feel like their work was being taken seriously. One student even remarked that the classroom felt \"driven, with purpose\" which gave them a renewed sense of pride and ownership over their upcoming projects.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps involve translating our rough drafts onto the large-scale poster boards for our \"Veitnam Era Protest\" exhibition. Students will use the markers to finalize their visual arguments and historical timelines, ensuring their findings are bold and legible for a public audience.
