Palacio to our classroom library. Your gift gives our students more than a captivating story—it offers a powerful lens for exploring empathy, acceptance, and self-discovery.\r\n\r\nAs our students read about Auggie Pullman's journey navigating fifth grade at Beecher Prep, we will be using active reading strategies to deepen their comprehension and connection to the story:\r\n\r\nCharacter Trait Tracking: Students will analyze character actions, dialogue, and inner thoughts to see how perspectives shift over time, particularly comparing Auggie's point of view with that of his classmates.\r\n\r\nPredicting & Questioning: Before and during key chapters, readers will pause to ask \"Why?\" behind characters' choices, encouraging critical thinking rather than simple surface-level reading.\r\n\r\nReflective Journaling: Students will respond to key quotes from the book—including Mr. Browne's famous monthly precepts—and reflect on how those lessons apply to their own lives.\r\n\r\nBeyond literacy skills, Wonder plays a vital role in cultivating a safe, welcoming school environment. The book's core message—\"When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind\"—serves as a foundation for class discussions on inclusion. Reading Auggie's story gives our students a shared language to talk about preventing isolation, standing up to quiet peer pressure, and actively seeking out classmates who might feel left out on the playground or in the lunchroom.\r\n\r\nYour generosity directly helps us build not only stronger readers, but a more compassionate school community. Because of you, my students now have access to engaging board games that are helping them build essential social communication skills in a fun and meaningful way.\r\n\r\nWe have already begun using the games during small group sessions to work on skills like turn-taking, asking and answering questions, flexible thinking, and appropriate social interactions. One of my favorite moments so far was watching a student who typically struggles with waiting his turn successfully ask, \"Can I have a turn next?\" and patiently wait while smiling and staying engaged in the game. It was such a big win and something we've been working toward for a long time.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were beyond excited. There were lots of smiles, laughter, and immediate engagement. For many of them, learning can feel challenging, but the games created an environment where they were eager to participate and didn't even realize how much they were practicing important skills.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue to use these games to target more advanced social skills, such as problem-solving, perspective-taking, and maintaining conversations. We are also working on helping students generalize these skills beyond the game setting and into the classroom and playground, so they can use what they've learned in real-life situations with their peers.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a meaningful impact on my students, not only in their learning but also in their confidence and willingness to interact with others. Thank you for helping create these opportunities for growth and connection in our speech room.","fullyFundedDate":1770439643719,"projectUrl":"project/game-on-for-social-skills/9801608/","projectTitle":"Game On for Social Skills!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ellis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1410267_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1450754564624","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kc-ellis"},{"teacherId":818140,"projectId":10018492,"letterContent":"Your generosity has helped my students develop their creative instincts as artists and authors.
