Our students come from low socio-economic households, and English-learner households. We have a high Hispanic and African-American population. We are a title 1 school faced with the new challenge of program improvement year 4, due to not meeting our criteria in certain standard areas. We are limited to teaching language arts and math, but are able to squeeze in science in the afternoons, and we usually don't have time to do fun hands-on experiments. Our new Language Arts unit crosses the curriculum into science! How fun is that? Now students that learn by visual or hands-on modes can be self-motivated to do their own project, even include their families in the fun.
