Having a book in every student's hands will allow us to fully immerse ourselves in these stories and make reading a shared experience that students can enjoy together.\r\n\r\nDuring our novel studies, students will practice much more than simply reading. We will work on making inferences, analyzing characters, identifying themes, determining how setting impacts a story, using text evidence to support ideas, and discussing how authors develop plots and conflicts. Reading will include independent reading, teacher read-alouds, partner and class discussions, predictions, and opportunities for students to dig deeper into the text. I am especially excited to see students who may not always consider themselves enthusiastic readers become invested in these high-interest stories. One of the items I ordered was neon signs, and at our first meeting we made kindness posters to hang all around the school. The students wrote positive messages on the posters. We will be celebrating \"Kindness Week\" so we will be taping positive messages to a piece of candy and passing them out randomly to students throughout the week. My club members will help to prepare the candy with the positive messages.\r\n Next steps in November, we will write notes to Veterans using our blank cards, and decorate placemats for the senior citizens to use on Thanksgiving.
