There have been many successful cases of students working to their full potential when they are "comfortable" in the learning environment. Just as adults find different positions to work, children should be allowed the same. Not all students work the same. Many students at this age seem to work better standing, laying on the floor, or "wiggling" in their seats. I have spent the last several months observing my class at work. I have been researching flexible seating options and would like to provide choices to my class that will allow them to choose how they can work to the best of their abilities! I have chosen seating options such as the wobble chair that allows students to "lean" forward and backward safely on the stool. Stability ball chairs and cushions allow some bouncing and wiggling to help channel some of their energy! These seating options will allow more movement and reduce the amount of times they hear, "Sit still!"
