Our students have enjoyed the novels provided and learned quite a bit in the process. This first group of 30 students, reading during their Homeroom period, have learned about Morquio syndrome and had their interest in the legends of King Arthur tweaked by the novel. Some saw elements of their own families and friendships reflected in the story of Kevin and Max told within Freak the Mighty.\r\n Additionally, we discussed the mechanism of using a first person narrative structure and discussed the final revelation that the novel they just read was \"written\" by Max.
