We begin with a short online video introducing the topic, then dive into the magazine.\r\n\r\nThrough Scholastic News, students learn about non-fiction text features such as headings, table of contents, glossaries, bold print, and photos. More importantly, they explore topics of interest like the invention of maple syrup, the Blue Angel jets, and fascinating creatures like the big-eyed tarsier. New vocabulary words are highlighted in each issue, enhancing their learning experience.\r\n\r\nThanks to the generosity of donors like you, my students immerse themselves in science, social studies, and health topics that broaden their understanding of the world in engaging ways. They enjoy the introductory videos, colorful photos, interesting facts, and brain break activities that get them moving. The beauty of this resource is that they don't even realize they're learning—they just think they're having fun!\r\n\r\nSome students prefer non-fiction over fiction, and these magazines are a wonderful addition to our classroom library for those fact-loving kids. Scholastic Magazines help us work on grade-level standards like identifying the main topic and retelling key details, making learning more engaging with topics that truly capture their interest.\r\n\r\nThank you for your support. We have class cash that they earn throughout the month for being on task, good behavior, participating, etc. At the end of the month, students run our \"KidMart\" as it has been named. This helps students with budgeting, being responsible not to lose their debit cards, and decimal math strategies. \r\nIt is fun to see them come back in after shopping, excited with their purchases.
