These second and third graders have initiative and know what they need. Our school budget shrank by $10,000 this year and they staffed us for 490 students but 519 showed up. We avoided 42 students per class with creative blending. To accommodate the 33 students in our class, I resorted to digging out trapezoid tables from a warehouse, newer than the old wiggles still residing in our class. This caused the revolt as students realized there was a stronger, sturdier base to work from. This is important to us because we take our work seriously and want to do our highest quality in all we do. Our school prides itself on its strong achievements in math and science and I believe this is because we give students real scenarios and objects to manipulate, observe and wonder about. These students know they need a stable platform for maximum learning.
