My students are no longer just reading about scientific concepts—they're actively exploring them. Whether they're using thermometers to measure temperature, magnets to test force, or beakers to explore volume and matter, the ability to do science has brought their curiosity to life. These tools have allowed students to take ownership of their investigations, make predictions, test hypotheses, and collaborate in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nThe excitement in the room is unmistakable during lab time. Students cheer when it's time for science and rush to gather their group's materials. One student, who previously struggled to stay engaged, now eagerly asks, \"What experiment are we doing today?\" The hands-on nature of our lessons has opened the door for students of all learning styles to connect with the content. Many of them are now seeing themselves as real scientists—questioning, testing, and exploring the world around them. This project didn't just supply materials—it sparked a genuine love for discovery that I know will stay with them beyond fourth grade.","fullyFundedDate":1752671504378,"projectUrl":"project/sparking-scientific-curiosity-engaging/9442119/","projectTitle":"Sparking Scientific Curiosity: Engaging Fourth Graders in Hands-On Discovery!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hollinger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5472241_orig.jpg?crop=337,337,x194,y14&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750376067652","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5472241"},{"teacherId":5472241,"projectId":9442239,"letterContent":"The new headphones have made a tremendous difference in how my students interact with digital content, especially during our science lessons with Discovery Education. From the pictures, you can see the amount and type of headphones we had previously. Before, students had to share or go without, which led to distractions and uneven learning experiences. Now, each student has their own pair of headphones, allowing them to fully engage with videos, simulations, and interactive tasks at their own pace. This has especially helped during centers and assessments, where quiet focus is critical for comprehension and success.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most about the new headphones is the simple joy of having their own. The bright colors make it easy to identify their set, and the comfortable, adjustable fit helps them stay focused for longer periods. I've noticed a big improvement in their ability to stay on task, especially for students who struggle with background noise or attention challenges. One student in particular, who used to get overwhelmed during tech-based activities, now confidently plugs in and gets right to work—he even offered to help others when we introduced new software.\r\n\r\nThis project didn't just provide headphones—it gave my students ownership over their learning space. They feel respected, equipped, and ready to dive into lessons without interruption. Thanks to your generosity, we now have a learning environment where every student can truly hear, focus, and succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1752084033900,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-that-last-learning-without-d/9442239/","projectTitle":"Headphones That Last: Learning Without Distraction","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hollinger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5472241_orig.jpg?crop=337,337,x194,y14&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750376067652","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5472241"},{"teacherId":5472241,"projectId":9442215,"letterContent":"When the new drawer organizers arrived, I quickly filled them with science tools and materials to prepare for our first investigation. Each drawer now holds essential items like magnifying glasses, thermometers, measuring tapes, and lab supplies—everything my students need to conduct hands-on experiments independently. During our recent unit on physical properties of matter, students used the organized drawers to gather tools for measuring mass, volume, and temperature. The ease of access allowed us to spend more time engaged in real science and less time searching for materials.\r\n\r\nMy students were genuinely excited when they first saw the bins set up and labeled. Several of them commented that it felt like we had our own \"real science lab.\" One student even said, \"This makes me feel like a real scientist!\" The drawers have helped instill a sense of responsibility and independence, as students now manage their own materials during investigations. It's been a huge win for engagement and efficiency.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be diving into a project on energy transfer, and the drawers will again play a key role. We'll be experimenting with materials that conduct or insulate heat, and students will access those resources directly from their organized bins. These seemingly simple storage drawers have become the backbone of our science routine—and your support has truly transformed how we explore and learn in our classroom. Overall, 34 students have used and loved this equipment in their class. A sand-table significantly impacts a preschool classroom by providing a rich sensory experience that fosters creativity, fine motor skill development, problem-solving abilities, social interaction, and language skills through open-ended play, allowing children to explore textures, build structures, and engage in imaginative play while developing important cognitive and physical abilities. \r\nWe have used the sand-table as a water-table, kinetic sand-table and sensory table as well. This table has created a wonderful environment to have conversations. Young children typically play together in these areas, develop intricate pretend play ideas, and ask one another questions. These areas also give the teachers plenty of opportunities to talk to students about their creations and pretend play. Teachers can get children to respond with the most creative responses by starting their conversations with statements like \"I wonder what would happen if . . .\" and \"Tell me about . . .\"\r\nI am so grateful and overjoyed by this generous donation that has specifically met a need in my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1699278203067,"projectUrl":"project/sandy-castles/7996420/","projectTitle":"Sandy Castles","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gray","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8726554"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_53633","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":444,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":78,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":25,"percentWhite":32,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":31,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":59.5,"schoolId":53633,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Indian River Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Indian River Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/school-dist-of-indian-river-co/highlands-elementary-school/53633"}
