The fiction books about class elections have helped us practice skills like identifying character motives, understanding the election process, and making text-to-real-life connections. These materials make it easy to introduce lessons on government, decision-making, and how everyday people can make a difference.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now feels more purposeful and exciting. The variety of books keeps students engaged—they love being able to choose between fast-paced fiction and interesting biographies that help them understand how real leaders shaped our country.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially connected with the new books. Knowing that they can come to the school counselor's office for items like hairbrushes or feminine products gives students piece of mind and can help them refocus on their learning instead of trying to find items to keep themselves healthy and clean.\r\n\r\nI have also been able to provide these items in a pinch, like when a student was so proud of her red lipstick for our Veteran's Day program, but it got smudged (all over her face) and she was able to use the wipes from this project to get cleaned up in time to sing for our Veterans. The items have also provided something as simple as when a student needed a hair tie for gym class.\r\n\r\nProviding enough items for 3 schools can be overwhelming, and having projects through Donor's Choose has been a game changer for me and for my students.
