My school is located in a high poverty rural area. It is a very close-knit community, but lacks some of the resources that other districts have. We do not have the greatest technology or the newest textbooks, but we have a very welcoming building. My first graders come from many different backgrounds and some have support at home and some do not. Many do not have the resources at home to give them a hands-on experience and I have multiple students who do their homework with me in the morning. But something they all have in common is the opportunity to learn and grow. They are full of joy and excitement and my hope is for them to develop a love of learning through my love of teaching.
