I try to get them to instill the belief that anything is possible if they have determination, leave excuses behind, and step up to the plate with their best effort. Recently I challenged my students to complete extra assignments at home to earn a reward of a math “fun day.” This serves two purposes. First it gets my students engaged with math concepts outside the school day, and second it provides an opportunity to increase parent involvement because students work on key concepts while getting support at home. It is my goal to teach not only math concepts, but the lifelong lesson that hard work and determination can pay off with big rewards.
