Students were, indeed, excited about the new materials and motivated to finish their writing! We explained that some generous people would like them to have opportunities to use their creativity and to practice at that, as well. They kept asking when we would get to use the paints.\r\n\r\nOne project we did was to create pop-up books to illustrate some of the parts of a book recommendation. We used the paper and pencils that were part of our materials. Students were given the \"special writing pencils with erasers\" that were part of our push to emphasize writing time. Another project was a color poem for our poetry unit. Students were so excited to have the opportunity to paint. It was also a great opportunity for the teachers to teach them how to use watercolors. The students were very proud of their work!\r\n\r\nWe are continuing to use these materials, as we continue our poetry unit. We intend to come up with a way for students to beautifully accentuate their writing in the future. It really helps them to take pride in a finished piece. Thank you so much to all the generous donors! Our students really deserve these opportunities and are grateful and appreciative!","fullyFundedDate":1772553898951,"projectUrl":"project/artistic-inspiration-for-writing/9929730/","projectTitle":"Artistic Inspiration for Writing","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mirza","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6919972"},{"teacherId":10383069,"projectId":9956832,"letterContent":"I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the donor for the wonderful games provided to our classroom. These games have been instrumental in teaching the children how to take turns and wait patiently. They have significantly contributed to the social and emotional learning (SEL) of the children. It's been truly amazing to see all the new things we can learn from these games. Moreover, the games have greatly improved our teamwork skills as we collaborate and support each other during play.\r\nThe students were thrilled when they first saw the new materials. Their faces lit up with excitement, and they couldn't wait to start playing and learning. One specific moment that stands out is when we used the Guess Who game as a project on cooperation. The students worked together to solve mystery person and complete challenges, which not only made learning fun but also reinforced the importance of teamwork.","fullyFundedDate":1770907291002,"projectUrl":"project/growing-minds/9956832/","projectTitle":"Growing Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brenda","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10383069"},{"teacherId":7036652,"projectId":9820791,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your contribution for our classroom project. The students have been using the little notebooks to create their own stories, write a journal entry for the day, retell a story, or write facts they have learned about a topic. \r\n\r\nIn second grade students practice their handwriting skills and learn to build their stamina at sticking with writing for longer periods of time. This can be a challenge for some students. They have been learning about the structure of a sentence and that multiple sentences make up a paragraph. My second graders are very motivated to write in these special books, knowing they will get to take them home to show heir families when they are complete. \r\n\r\nThere is also a space for students to illustrate their writing in the notebook. The markers included in this project are thin and miniature. It is so fun for students to use a different medium to draw with and they don't bleed onto the back of the notebook pages.\r\nHaving these notebooks inspire and build the students' confidence as writers. They are encouraged to use their creativity and students love sharing their ideas with each other which builds their communication skills. Tnank you again. They loved it. The students used their fine motor skills when they manipulated the t-shirt with rubber bands and applied their choice of dye to the different spots on the fabric. Then they needed to wait.\r\nThe students learned patience because they needed to wait over 24 hours for the dye to set and the shirts to be washed. When they finally got their shirts, it was fun to see the excitement on their faces when they saw their own designs on their t- shirts. \r\n\r\nEveryone's was different. A few of the students said, \"This is the best day ever!\" It is one way for the students to see they belong to a community when they all put their shirts on for the day. It encouraged students to communicate with each other about their individual creations. Tie-dyeing was a fun way to introduce children to the world of colors. Some of the colors blended together made other colors.\r\n\r\nMy plan is to come up with more engaging projects that help bring our classroom community together and feel good about themselves. Last year, when they rushed to the shelves to find their favorite series, they would often turn around with looks of disappointment and frustration because they were all checked out. Now, we are building up enough of a supply to enable most students to check out one or two of their favorites when they visit. \r\n\r\nA group of older students is particularly excited about our new books written in Hmong, as they have been repeatedly checking out books from our current Hmong collection (which is small and dated) to share with family at home. Also, the new Spanish language books have been a timely hit this month as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage month. \r\n\r\nOne of the best remarks I've overheard was from a parent who is new to our school. Upon seeing the new book display, she exclaimed how happy she was to see Black kids on the covers of such beautiful new books. Thank you, donors, for helping us provide books that allow our students to see themselves beautifully reflected in the books they choose.","fullyFundedDate":1746785471072,"projectUrl":"project/i-want-to-read-that-book/9185393/","projectTitle":"I Want to Read That Book!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Teacher Jen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9971648_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x340,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742401752212","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9971648"},{"teacherId":7036652,"projectId":9364475,"letterContent":"The students were very happy to get the new materials at the beginning of this school year! Students can use the board to practice spelling words before writing them on their papers or use the white board to solve math problems as well. The EXPO markers and erasers work great too! Markers always seem to dry out.\r\nThe styluses have come in really handy. Students use their iPads throughout the day and it is nice to use this tool. It is easier to draw and write using a stylus instead of just their fingers. They love them!\r\nThe strong magnets help post papers and charts as we do our lessons.
