The carpet will help with the classroom acoustics and atmosphere to support learning conversations. Many of our students are English Language Learners and all of our students need to practice holding academic conversations to further their learning. One of our classroom goals is to increase the amount of time students use to discuss their learning. We provide sentence stems and key vocabulary to support the practice. Our classroom is large with wooden floors and cement walls, which amplify the noise and make it difficult to have simultaneous conversations. The floor lamp is to allow us to shut off the bright florescent lights and use mostly natural lighting for a calmer aesthetic.
