The generous donations provided my students with new books, classroom technology accessories, hands-on learning tools, and supplies that help make our learning environment more engaging, organized, and student-centered.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest impacts has been the addition of high-interest books to our classroom library. Having multiple copies of titles such as Front Desk, Poppy, and I Survived the Black Death, 1348, along with the Wings of Fire and National Park Mystery series, has given students exciting choices and opportunities to read books that truly capture their interests. When students find a series or author they love, reading becomes something they want to do. The Wings of Fire books in particular have been a huge hit, and students have been eager to continue reading through the series. These books have encouraged independent reading, conversations between classmates, and a genuine excitement about what they will read next.\r\n\r\nThe individual whiteboards have also become an important part of our daily instruction. They allow every student to participate and demonstrate their thinking without the pressure of completing an entire worksheet. We use them for math problems, vocabulary, spelling, comprehension questions, quick writes, and formative assessments. They make it easy for me to quickly see who understands a concept and who may need additional support. Students love being able to write, erase, try again, and share their thinking.\r\n\r\nThe headphones have been incredibly helpful as well. They allow students to work independently on digital assignments, listen to audiobooks, and access instructional resources without distracting classmates. This has helped create a quieter, more focused learning environment and has given students greater independence when working with technology.\r\n\r\nThe cardstock, laminating supplies, pens, and organizational materials have allowed me to create durable, colorful resources that we can use again and again. I have been able to make visual supports, learning tools, classroom games, labels, and reference materials that make our classroom more organized and learning more accessible. The supplies may seem like small things, but they are used constantly and help our classroom run smoothly.\r\n\r\nFinally, the teacher chair has been a wonderful addition to my workspace, allowing me to comfortably prepare lessons, organize materials, and work with students during small-group instruction.\r\n\r\nI am incredibly grateful to the donors who made this project possible. Your generosity has helped create a classroom filled with books students are excited to read, materials they are excited to use, and resources that encourage them to become more independent learners. My students come to school with a wide variety of experiences, needs, and emotions, and I want my classroom to be a place where they feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. The fidgets, calming light-up bear, and children's books have given us simple, meaningful ways to incorporate mental health and wellness into our everyday classroom routines.\r\nThe fidgets have been especially helpful for students who benefit from having something small and quiet to manipulate while listening, working, or trying to regain focus. Students have learned that using a fidget is not simply a toy or a distraction—it can be a tool that helps their bodies feel more settled so their brains are ready to learn. Having a variety of fidgets also allows students to find the type of sensory support that works best for them. I have loved watching students become more aware of what they need and learn to appropriately choose a tool when they are feeling restless, overwhelmed, or having difficulty concentrating.\r\nThe light-up breathing bear has become another wonderful resource in our classroom. It provides students with a visual and calming reminder to slow down and practice controlled breathing. When students are experiencing big emotions, sometimes being told to \"calm down\" is not enough. They need someone to help them understand how to calm their bodies. The bear gives us something concrete to focus on as we practice taking slow breaths. We can use it individually when a student needs a quiet moment or as part of a whole-class conversation about emotions, breathing, and self-regulation. It has helped make breathing strategies feel approachable and accessible for young children.\r\nThe children's books have been equally valuable. Books give us a natural and developmentally appropriate way to talk about feelings, friendship, frustration, kindness, perseverance, worry, and other aspects of emotional wellness. Rather than simply telling students how they should handle their emotions, stories allow them to see characters experience challenges and think about different ways to respond. We can talk about what a character might be feeling, connect the story to our own experiences, and practice identifying strategies that might help when we encounter similar situations.\r\nPerhaps the greatest impact of this project is that it has helped us build a classroom culture where taking care of our mental and emotional well-being is treated as a normal and important part of learning. Students are learning that everyone experiences difficult emotions and that needing a break, using a calming strategy, or asking for help is not something to be embarrassed about. These are skills that will serve them far beyond the classroom.\r\nThank you to the generous donors who made this project possible. Your support has given my students practical tools, comforting resources, and opportunities to develop important lifelong skills. Because of you, our classroom has become a little more peaceful, a little more supportive, and a place where students can learn that their feelings matter and they have tools to help themselves through them.","fullyFundedDate":1759360706978,"projectUrl":"project/mental-health-matters/9414753/","projectTitle":"Mental Health Matters!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Murphy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4498002_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1551406356776","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kelliemurphy"},{"teacherId":4498002,"projectId":9414775,"letterContent":"This color printer has made such a meaningful difference in our classroom! What may seem like a simple classroom supply has become an everyday tool that helps me create a learning environment that is organized, engaging, and inviting for my students. Having access to a color printer has allowed me to turn ordinary instructional materials into colorful, purposeful resources that students are excited to use and that help make learning more accessible and memorable.\r\nOne of the biggest impacts has been the ability to create colorful, meaningful anchor charts and reference materials for student binders. Instead of students having to rely solely on what is displayed on the classroom wall, they can now keep important learning tools with them in their own binders. We have been able to print examples, vocabulary, strategies, diagrams, graphic organizers, and other visual supports that students can refer back to throughout the year. These resources give students something concrete to look at when they are working independently and help them become more confident and independent learners. I love seeing students flip through their binders to find a strategy or example that we have learned and use it to help themselves complete a task.\r\nThe printer has also helped us create a classroom environment that feels organized, personal, and welcoming. I have been able to print colorful labels, signs, supply tags, organizational materials, and visual reminders for our classroom. Instead of a classroom where everything simply has a place, we've created a space where students understand how our materials are organized and can take greater ownership of their learning environment. Color-coding and visual labels are especially helpful for young learners because they make it easier to find materials, return supplies, and navigate the classroom independently.\r\nMost importantly, the printer has helped me make learning more engaging. As a teacher, I know that a colorful page does not automatically make a lesson better, but thoughtful visuals can make a big difference in helping students connect with and remember what they are learning. I can quickly create materials that match our current lessons, classroom themes, student interests, and individual learning needs. Whether we are creating a visual for a science concept, a reference sheet for reading, a math strategy card, or a fun activity to reinforce a skill, being able to print in color has given me more flexibility to meet my students where they are.\r\nThis printer has allowed me to spend less time worrying about how to access and prepare materials and more time focusing on how those materials can support my students. It has become a resource that I use regularly, and its impact reaches far beyond a single lesson or activity. The materials we create can be placed in student binders, displayed in our classroom, used during small-group instruction, or revisited weeks later when students need a reminder of a previously taught concept.\r\nI am incredibly grateful to the donors who made this possible. Your generosity has provided our classroom with more than a printer—it has given me another way to make learning visual, organized, creative, meaningful, and engaging for my students. Having fresh, engaging titles has sparked so much curiosity and excitement in my young readers, helping them build foundational literacy skills and a genuine love for books.\r\n\r\nThe colorful paper has brought an extra layer of creativity to our everyday learning. We use it for hands-on fine-motor practice, art projects, and interactive phonics and math activities. Having bright visuals makes a surprising difference in keeping five- and six-year-olds engaged and excited about their work.\r\n\r\nOur new STEM materials—especially the building and stacking blocks—have made a profound impact on our daily instruction.
