My students are in great need of good literature. Over the years I have bought bags of books from yard sales and library sales to refill my personal class library. I allow my students to take the books home and read them. I ask students to return the books, but each year many of my books get lost. I am happy if even a few of these books motivate my students to become greater readers. When I first came to my school, our school received a grant from scholastic for classroom books. Somehow my classroom got overlooked. I was new, so I never complained, but I could use some new books for my students. This would be a God send! I believe we would be fulfilling many reading standards such as RL.5.10 - Students read independently and proficiently, RF.5.3 and RF.5.4 which elaborates on students decoding and recognizing words.
