With this machine, students are not only learning how to follow directions and work together, but they are also participating in activities that encourage giving back. We are using it as part of our \"spread kindness\" initiative, where students help prepare and share sweet treats with others in our school as a way to brighten someone's day.\r\n\r\nThrough this experience, students are developing important social and emotional skills such as empathy, teamwork, and generosity. They take pride in being able to do something kind for others, whether it's serving a classmate, celebrating staff members, or recognizing someone who needs a little extra encouragement. With access to a wider variety of engaging books, students are able to explore different genres and topics that spark their curiosity and support their individual reading levels.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is now an active and joyful experience. Our school district, like many in the country, is also suffering from budget cuts and is not able to fund item that it does not consider \"essential\". These headphones are essential, however. I have been assigned an ESOL classroom this year for the first time in my teaching career. Part of what the ESOL students work on is a program called Imagine Learning. This program helps them understand and learn to speak and read English at a more proficient level. Part of this program involves talking into the computer using a microphone. This is where the headphones come in. The ones I asked for have a built in microphone that allows my students to properly avail themselves of this software.\r\n My students are also more organized thanks to the chairback pouches provided. Your support made it possible for my first-grade students to participate in our Welcome Bag Compassion Project—an experience that has already made a lasting impact on how they see and treat others.\r\n\r\nThrough this project, my students learned that compassion is more than just being kind—it is about understanding how others feel and taking action to help. We engaged in thoughtful discussions, role-playing activities, and read-alouds that helped students reflect on what it feels like to be new, nervous, or unsure. They began to recognize emotions such as loneliness, excitement, and fear, and most importantly, they learned that their actions can make a difference.\r\n\r\nWith the materials you provided, my students were able to assemble Welcome Bags filled with essential school supplies. Each bag also included a handwritten note of encouragement, with messages like \"I'm glad you're here\" and \"You can sit with me.\" These simple yet powerful gestures helped students connect empathy with action in a way that was both authentic and memorable.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this project has extended far beyond the activity itself. I have already observed students demonstrating more awareness of their peers' feelings and independently showing kindness and inclusion in our classroom. They are beginning to understand that even small acts can help someone feel safe, valued, and welcomed.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped shape not only my students' academic growth, but also their character. You have given them the opportunity to practice compassion in a real and meaningful way—something they will carry with them far beyond first grade.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and helping us build a classroom community rooted in empathy, kindness, and belonging.","fullyFundedDate":1772039145110,"projectUrl":"project/the-welcome-bag-compassion-project/10099318/","projectTitle":"The Welcome Bag Compassion Project","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Francois","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4427940_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1492883580360","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4427940"},{"teacherId":3100115,"projectId":9539465,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contributions.
