Differentiated instruction is supposed to target the learners’ needs and we all know that every student learns in a different way. My morning class loves to work independently and work on the computer. My afternoon class loves to be hands-on and they are constantly trying to find something that can momentarily release that energy. As a first year teacher, I do not have the materials to properly engage every student, YET. I want to use these manipulatives and games as a means to engage my students and encourage them to continue learning. I also want to increase community building in the classroom. I want my students to not only depend on me, their teacher but their classmates because we are all on the same team with the same goal, student achievement.
