We are also researching how each part of the bird body works and why they have those specific characteristics. \r\n\r\nMy kids are so engaged and the books have been such a treat! First, I unpacked the boxes and let all the students see all the books they had access to during our WIN (what I need) time. I read some of the titles to get them excited about reading \"real\" books. Next, I let the students look at the books and the pictures for a few minutes each day. During this time, I had to align the books with the phonics program we use for intervention. \r\n\r\nAfter I finished aligning the books, I started choosing books for the students to read as practice opportunities on the skills we were working on. We read books in our intervention group in a systematic and explicit way. First, I read the book to the students while they two finger tracked (to use both sides of the brain). Then we decoded the words and then read them \"the fast way\". Then an \"expert\" would read the sentence the fast way. The students all had a chance to be an expert with my support if needed. \r\n \r\nThe kindergarteners could not believe they were \"reading\".
