Every child has a desire to create, build, and explore it is my job to provide them with a space to do so. The materials provided will give a place for my students to express their creativity and ingenuity. STEM is a subject that has been on the rise within education for quite sometime now. It is difficult, as a first year teacher, to find the time to fit in all of the amazing activities that are in place within Kindergarten, especially STEM. I wanted to make sure that my students are introduced early on to the subject in order to better benefit their education and future. Having a STEM station in our classroom will challenge students who need the extra push and will encourage others to push themselves. The STEM station will be used within math centers, so all students will have a chance to explore and build. Each of the items asked for will play in important part in the center. The magnetic tiles teaches students about construction concepts while tying in basic geometry by seeing how different shapes can make other shapes. The building blocks and snowflake links really help students to work on fine motor skills and putting their minds to work by building and creating. The gears are one of the items that I am most excited about, our class will see how to use links and gears to make a functioning "machine". By supplying task cards to go along with the items, students will be required to meet certain challenges and challenge themselves. My students have shown great interest in building and asking questions such as "What would happen if..." I believe that providing this space will feed their curious minds.
