I wanted to thank everyone again for your contribution to my classroom library. I have already read many books to my students and they have learned valuable lessons from these stories. We have a classroom vision that we recite altogether every morning that consists of reminding each other to be kind, respectful, responsible, and safe. These are life-long important qualities to have and thanks to your donation I have been able to teach these through story telling.\r\n\r\nWe typically have story time mid-morning in our classroom, just after recess, and the topics we discuss in our books are often transitions into a writing or social studies activity. I would like to share a few activities that I have done with the books that have been provided to me. We read \"Everybody Did That\" which taught us the importance of not following bad examples. We learned how to keep our homes, schools, and planet clean and safe by saving electricity, throwing our trash away/recycling, and having gracious manners in public. Following this discussion, my students did a worksheet where they had to think of different ways to help keep the school clean and safe. I also read \"Me on the Map\" which led to a geography lesson. We have discussed vocabulary terms such as latitude, longitude, north, south, east, west, etc. and have also discussed different cultures and norms in different countries! The students then had to make a map of their choosing (their bedroom, house, neighborhood, etc.) and include directions. Finally, in light of the 2024 election, I used that opportunity to discuss the importance of senators, mayors, governors, and presidents using the book Duck for President. They had many questions (some of which I didn't know how to answer) and we learned a lot together!\r\n\r\nMy students have really valued story time during the first half of the year and I'm excited for new activities to come. Sincerely, thank you all so much for your donations, growing my love for children's literature, and helping make our story time exciting.","fullyFundedDate":1726588715260,"projectUrl":"project/new-teacher-classroom-library/8754817/","projectTitle":"New Teacher Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Yosai","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9724919"},{"teacherId":9720054,"projectId":8724495,"letterContent":"I cannot begin to express my gratitude for your incredible donations.
