Our Computer Science classroom sees students from all grade levels and language backgrounds in one place, and it's important that all those students have a safe, calm, regulated place to learn this cognitively demanding subject.\r\n\r\nThe lamp has allowed me to keep the Evil Big Lights (enemy of all neurodivergent and overstimulated kids) off during class, replacing their light with a warm, relaxing glow. This became the foundation of the classroom's Calm Corner. From there, I added the essential oil diffuser, a fan favorite of middle school students. We are also looking forward to finalizing expectations for the space with input from students and posting them on our new whiteboard. Step by step, the garden is becoming more usable and inviting. \r\n\r\nLast week, a student approached me with a ladybug on their hand. \"Look, Miss!\" they said excitedly. Later that day in garden group, we made pipe cleaner models of various garden elements for students to take home. I am so glad they are experiencing the magic of a space where things grow and a whole little ecosystem is supported.
