My third grade students represent the heart, soul, and promise of Oakland California. Like many children living in poverty, they are constantly experiences the upheaval of housing shortages and unreliable transportation from wherever they may be staying at the moment. They get to school on the kindness of extended family and neighbors, or even other families at the school who may or may not be able to reasonably handle the burden of extra children to care for. But once the students arrive and have had a healthy, school-provided breakfast, we get down to learning. Like many Oakland schools with declining student populations and limited funds, we have very big and have real challenges to meet. Supplies are short and staff is shorter! We call on our families, and the dedication of the local community to make our school the right place for our children to flourish, learn, and develop empathy. Your donation counts!
