Students have eagerly explored colored rice, beans, and kinetic sand while scooping, pouring, pinching, and transferring materials. These activities are helping strengthen the fine motor muscles students need for writing and everyday classroom tasks. The mini frog figurines and frog life cycle models have also sparked wonderful conversations as students observe, sequence, and learn about how frogs grow and change.\r\n\r\nWhat makes this project especially meaningful is how easily our sensory materials connect play to multiple areas of learning. Students use flower counters and gold coins to practice counting, sorting, and comparing, while scoops, tongs, and magnifying glasses encourage investigation and problem-solving. When students first saw the materials, they were excited to touch, explore, and ask questions—and that excitement has continued as they turn their play into learning. Our next step is to continue building on these investigations through frog life cycle activities, spring-themed math and literacy experiences, and opportunities for students to document and share what they discover.
