Reading a short novel in a different language during the first semester might have seemed like a very ambitious goal. But with the support you provided, my novice learners have been able to get in touch with historic events and cultural practices that made the language classroom a community of learners. This time the story of a not-so popular kid in contemporary Mexico, uncovered legends of hidden treasures from the times of the Mecican Revolution and family celebrations with traditions that are otherwise widely misunderstood. Thanks to you, that vision is now a reality. It's been wonderful to watch students pick up a fidget during a difficult or an anxious moment and find that small outlet that helps them stay grounded.\r\n\r\nFor students who might otherwise fidget with pencils, tap their feet, or withdraw altogether, these simple tools give them a healthy and appropriate way to manage their energy. Having a space where students can pull up close to my desk makes our one-on-one time more meaningful. Whether we're problem-solving through a peer issue or a personal challenge, this setup has allowed for a more comfortable, natural interaction. Students seem to relax more easily that leads to better communication. Many of them have commented that it feels like a \"safe spot\" a place where they can take a breath, think, and talk things through without feeling judged or rushed.
