The everyday supplies have also helped us support students as they build independence with routines such as toileting.\r\n\r\nOur next step is helping students learn to recognize what their bodies need and independently choose an appropriate sensory or calming strategy. My students were beyond excited to see the new materials added to the treasure box. They specifically picked out the items, which means I know that they will be highly motivated to earn them. Their faces just lit up with excitement.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the reading material strategically, choosing high-interest books that also match each student's individual reading level. The combination has been incredibly effective, as students are eager to pick up books that genuinely interest them while building essential literacy skills. The treasure box has become a wonderful tool for positive reinforcement / motivation, giving the students something tangible to work towards. \r\n\r\nAs we move forward, my next step is to have students begin writing reflections based on what they have been reading. This will allow them to deepen their comprehension, express their thoughts, and take ownership of their learning journey. When my students first saw everything, there was immediate excitement! They wanted to explore the different textures, movement options, fidgets, and sensory tools and discover which ones they liked best.\r\n\r\nThat excitement quickly became something even more meaningful: an opportunity to learn what helps their own bodies feel ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThroughout our day, students are beginning to use these resources during academics, science, transitions, movement and sensory breaks, and reinforcer time. A student might use a fidget while listening to instruction, choose a sensory tool before beginning a challenging academic task, take a movement break when their body needs it, or find a comfortable seating option for independent work. Instead of simply being told what they need, we are working toward students recognizing and communicating those needs for themselves.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting places we are seeing these supports make a difference is during science. My students love hands-on learning. Science gives them opportunities to investigate, explore, make predictions, experiment, and discover what happens when their ideas don't work the first time. Sensory and regulation supports help make those experiences accessible. When students have tools that help their bodies remain regulated, they are better able to participate, handle materials, work alongside classmates, communicate observations, and stay engaged in an investigation.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students tools that help them regulate, communicate, participate, and grow. You aren't just helping students feel more comfortable at school, you are helping them develop skills they can carry with them as they become increasingly confident and independent learners.","fullyFundedDate":1784698992158,"projectUrl":"project/tools-for-regulation-learning-and-succ/10337235/","projectTitle":"Tools for Regulation, Learning, and Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Boelter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4184353_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1498592886123","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4184353"},{"teacherId":9355569,"projectId":9994608,"letterContent":"Dear Donors,Thank You so much for your incredible generosity in funding our project, \"Creating a Welcoming Classroom with Rug and Storage.\" Your kindness has brought a wave of excitement and comfort to our learning space! The new rug has completely transformed our classroom.
