One powerful moment happened during our nonfiction text analysis project. Using the new materials, students were able to annotate directly, highlight key ideas, and use sentence stems to support their responses. During one lesson, a scholar who normally hesitates to participate confidently explained the author's main idea and supported it with text evidence using the tools we received. That moment reminded me that access truly impacts engagement and confidence.\r\nTheir excitement was immediate. Several students said, \"These are for us?\" and couldn't wait to organize and use them. For many of my scholars, having fresh, high-quality materials made them feel valued and taken seriously as learners. It shifted the energy in the room — they handled the resources with pride and were eager to show responsibility. It wasn't just about supplies; it was about ownership of their learning.\r\nWe are currently moving into a deeper comprehension unit where students will compare multiple texts and analyze themes across passages. The next step is using these resources to support structured discussions, written responses, and project-based learning tasks. Students will create evidence-based presentations that demonstrate growth in vocabulary, fluency, and critical thinking. My goal is to continue building independence so scholars can confidently use academic language and text evidence without scaffolding. These materials are helping us move from guided practice to true academic ownership.","fullyFundedDate":1768500786915,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-young-readers-for-double-dose-su/10003183/","projectTitle":"Fueling Young Readers for Double-Dose Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Moore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9592149_orig.jpg?crop=1944,1944,x0,y77&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1771533020206","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9592149"},{"teacherId":10409076,"projectId":10034091,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting \"Markers, Paper, and Mighty Learning\" through DonorsChoose. Because of your generosity, 21 teachers across our school were given the copy paper and whiteboard markers they needed to teach more effectively every single day. These may seem like simple tools, but in a busy classroom setting they are essential to instruction, student engagement, and timely feedback. Your support directly removed a barrier and allowed our teachers to focus fully on learning rather than stretching limited supplies.\r\n\r\nWhen developing the project, I reached out to 21 3rd-5th grade and secondary math teachers and asked them a simple question - what supplies do you most use in the classroom, so much so that you are willing to spend your own money to make sure these supplies are available. Overwhelmingly the teachers responded \"whiteboard markers and paper\" and thus this project was born! \r\n\r\nTeachers immediately put these materials to work. One shared, \"The copy paper allowed me to create targeted small-group reading packets and daily math practice sheets without worrying about running out. My students now have consistent materials they can write on, highlight, and take home to practice.\" Another wrote, \"Fresh whiteboard markers made a huge difference in visibility and student participation — my students are much more eager to come to the board to solve problems and explain their thinking.\"\r\n\r\nAdditional feedback from classrooms has been just as meaningful: \"I used the paper to print science response pages so every learner could access the lesson,\" and \"The markers are used all day long for modeling, guided practice, and quick checks for understanding. Having reliable markers means no lost instructional time. My students use small individual white boards at their desks and we go through a tremendous number of markers throughout the year.\" Across grade levels and subjects, these supplies are being used to create clearer instruction, more interactive lessons, and stronger student engagement.\r\n\r\nPlease know that your gift had an immediate and school-wide impact. On behalf of our 21 teachers and the many students they serve, thank you for investing in our classrooms and believing in our work. This \"embodied learning\" approach is essential for developing foundational STEM skills like computational thinking, spatial reasoning, and mathematical fluency in a way that aligns with kinesthetic and visual learning styles. We are using the new science table as a dedicated space for hands-on experiments, group investigations, and collaborative discussions. The science kits have allowed students to explore concepts in a tangible way, while the science and social studies posters now serve as daily visual references that reinforce key vocabulary and ideas across our lessons.\r\n\r\nOne especially memorable moment was when students used the science kits at the new table for the first time. They worked together to observe, question, and test ideas, just like real scientists. I watched students who are usually hesitant to participate become fully engaged—asking questions, sharing predictions, and celebrating discoveries. The table has truly become a hub of curiosity and teamwork in our classroom.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate and heartfelt. They cheered when they noticed the science table and eagerly gathered around as we unpacked the kits and posters. Students were already talking about how hard they wanted to work to earn one of those awards, which has added an extra layer of motivation and pride to our classroom culture.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these resources will continue to support our current lessons and upcoming projects.
