I always pride myself on having an aesthetically pleasing classroom that immediately makes the students feel welcome, ready, and excited to learn. Many of my kiddos are coming back to school after a year and a half hiatus due to covid and many of them had gotten so used to being at home, that they had forgotten the positive effects of a classroom can have on their learning environment. I wish to paint a mural in my classroom that looks like a giant bookshelf and I want the titles they see to be books that portray people, places, and events that they can relate to personally.
I want my students to feel like they are in a beautiful, magical place when they walk into my classroom. I want twinkly lights, splashes of color, and positive images of books to surround them. I want them to get excited about reading and writing.
I also want them to not only see images of books that relate to them, but I also want them to have direct access to these books. Even if we do not have time to read all the books I would like as a class, I still want them to see them on our bookshelves in the classroom and to be able to pick them out and read them at home if they choose.
