Some of the students here have set times they use the room to get energy out to calm their bodies, reset after an upsetting situation or conflict, and/or processing sensory information before transitioning to a different class or subject. These students have been the most vocal a with feedback about the new items. A first grade boy loves to use the tactile boards and find which one \"helps\" him be ready to read. Another second grade boy with significant Autism uses the trapeze bar and he is notably calmer in the afternoon after he is able to hang and swing. \r\nThe staff working with students in the room report the options give our students ability to decide what helps them and control over their body and emotions- allowing adults to teach the students about self regulation. These have been the most valuable tool to use during writing time. Kids can have it near them and if they are unsure of how to spell a word they can look it up. We have also used it in other lessons like alliteration (Tammy tiger took a train to Texas.) as well as used them to identify words into nouns, adjectives, and verbs.
