Throughout my 8+ years of teaching I have found that getting students up and out of their desks is key to educational success. Having a variety of learning spaces in the classroom allows the students to move their bodies throughout the day, allows me to differentiate my instruction to reach a variety of academic levels in small groups, and offers a more comfortable space for our morning meeting and individual reading time. A new classroom rug will create a reading space, a meeting space and a new learning space. The current rug is uncomfortable to sit on and is uninviting. The new rug would breath some light and color into the drab classroom and help create a welcoming and comfortable learning environment. In addition to classroom meetings, my students will be able to sprawl, lay, or sit on it during individual reading time.
