Right now, students gather on the carpet where there is masking tape defining rows in which they should sit. This tape leads to a lot of off-task behavior and arguments. Without some borders, I find that students tend to migrate away from the meeting space, which distracts from the learning environment I want to create. With this colorful carpet, students will have a more inviting and comfortable meeting space in order to foster community-building that will lead to academic achievement. They will have a clearly-defined space in which to sit, and this will lead to less learning time lost to off-task behavior.
