I helped my students who have the class job of librarian set up the library with the new books and then we had a class meeting where I introduced the books and let them pick on for a read aloud. They chose Abdul's Story as the first read aloud. This was a book about an African American boy with a learning disability who learned that he could write his stories like a real author when he met a man like him that had his same struggles and was an author. I then got to talk to my class about representation and why it is so important to see themselves in the important people in the community. This was such a sweet book with a great lesson and that I was able to teach thanks to your donations.\r\n\r\nMy students are also gravitating to the new books. They especially love the I Survived books and are working on reading them already. Students who are unable to read them are working hard to get to the level needed to read them because they see the excitement in what others are doing. Thank you so much for helping me give this gift to my students.","fullyFundedDate":1758834732704,"projectUrl":"project/help-expand-and-diversify-our-classroom/9692968/","projectTitle":"Help Expand and Diversify Our Classroom Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. J.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3860942_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1473538327895","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3860942"},{"teacherId":6199717,"projectId":8939713,"letterContent":"Thanks so much for all the wonderful series! I have been showcasing the series one at a time by reading them myself and then selling them to the class. They have been devouring them!\r\nThe Gumazing Girl has been a favorite. It's exciting, picture filled, and a little easier for kids to latch onto. The class was so excited about it, I had to buy the last of the series!\r\nThe Lotus Island and Spider-Man sets have been super popular too. During silent reading time, kids are latched onto books and bringing them home to keep on reading! Many are even bringing them to recess (though I do encourage them to run around instead)! I sealed them all up with laminate, so they should last for many more classes to come. \r\nI appreciate the love and support; the kids really loved this one!","fullyFundedDate":1733464020662,"projectUrl":"project/a-book-shelf-that-makes-you-want-to-read/8939713/","projectTitle":"A Book Shelf That Makes You Want to Read!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Haugen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6199717_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x81,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1651503306859","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6199717"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35808","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":400,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":87,"percentAsian":15,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":15,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"1 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.8,"schoolId":35808,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cedarhurst Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cedarhurst Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/highline-public-schools/cedarhurst-elementary-school/35808"}
