I ran a different project several years back to get a charging station and five starter calculators, but never rounded it out. As you can see from the pics, students often require a calculator and computer to get through AP Calculus.\r\n\r\nThe exciting thing here is that we soon get to decorate the cases. I'll put on a base with spray paint and then students will get to make them their own. In a perfect world, every student would always have a calculator and bring it to class. It's a shame I don't have pictures capturing the kids geeking out when first opening everything, but they were very ecstatic.\r\n\r\nThe platform fighting games have added diversity to the corner of head to head gamers. There were lot's of wide eyes and excited squeals during the unboxing.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting thing about about this project for students is the new hub. While our gaming club has decent reputation and membership, being on the cutting edge rather than using hand me downs really helps attract attendees in the new year.\r\n\r\nThe club officers are all elated, but it is most meaningful for the few who don't have access to these games and get to now have some form of ownership by proxy. Many students who struggled to stay invested in traditional whole-class texts found themselves deeply drawn into the real stories and voices presented in nonfiction. They came to class ready to discuss, debate, and connect what they read to their own lives. For many, this was the first time they felt like reading was relevant to their world beyond high school.\r\n\r\nThe conversations these books sparked were powerful. Students made connections between their experiences and the struggles, resilience, and perspectives they encountered in the texts. They practiced listening to and challenging each other respectfully, learning how to collaborate and think critically in ways that mirror the discussions they will face in college and beyond. More importantly, they began to recognize their own voices as part of these larger conversations, building confidence in their ability to analyze, question, and contribute.\r\n\r\nYour support has made this possible. Because of donors like you, our shelves now include engaging nonfiction titles that inspire curiosity, empathy, and critical thinking.
