This professional development experience deepened my understanding of how children learn to read and gave me research-based strategies to better support my students as they develop strong reading and comprehension skills.\r\n\r\nOne of the most valuable parts of the course was learning more about the science behind how reading develops. The course explored the connection between phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, and how these elements work together to build strong readers. It was incredibly helpful to see how intentional instruction in each of these areas supports students at different stages of their reading journey.\r\n\r\nThe highlight of the course for me was learning practical strategies for strengthening students' comprehension while they read. We explored ways to help students actively think about texts through questioning, discussion, and structured reflection. These approaches help students move beyond simply decoding words to truly understanding and engaging with what they read.\r\n\r\nOne strategy I am especially excited to bring into my classroom is using more explicit modeling of reading comprehension strategies. For example, I learned how powerful it can be to \"think aloud\" while reading a text so students can hear how a reader makes predictions, asks questions, and connects ideas while reading. I plan to incorporate regular think-alouds during our reading lessons so students can better understand the thinking process that strong readers use.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, I am returning to my classroom with new tools and insights that will help my students grow as confident and capable readers. Your generosity has directly strengthened my ability to support early literacy development, and it will have a lasting impact on my students as they continue building the reading skills they need for future learning. Thank you for investing in my professional growth and in my students' success.","fullyFundedDate":1771364539030,"projectUrl":"project/professional-development-to-support-earl/9998205/","projectTitle":"Professional Development to Support Early Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Inma","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10399900_orig.jpg?crop=2288,2288,x725,y1643&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1771442236145","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10399900"},{"teacherId":9479414,"projectId":9550764,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating the Raul the Third books.
