The cheap ruler/compasses the district provided didn't work; many of them were defective and didn't rotate around the sight glass. Students couldn't see the center point through the sight glass and pens and unsharpened pencils didn't fit in the openings so they couldn't be used. It was difficult to teach concepts as students couldn't master the tools. They also used the printer to print all materials for the Learning Game they designed as a project. Having a printer readily available enabled the student design teams the to produce the words and images incorporated into their games. Students also saw the 'print previews' and edited the layout of images and words in their documents, making those visually more effective, a skill necessary for students in a Design class.\r\n\r\nWithout this immediate ability to print, students likely would have had to print it outside of school. Also, they might not get the opportunity to revise and edit their own work as the program they used and the software in the printer might not be as compatible as they expected and the images might not be as they needed them to be.\r\n\r\nWe will continue to make use of our ability to print in color for all our special projects. They loved the hands-on opportunity to relate to some of the hard-to-comprehend ideas of astronomy, like the right ascension and declination coordinates and the layout of the constellations on the celestial sphere. The supplies that we were able to purchase enabled us to conduct high level labs such as ELISA (similar to a COVID test) to 'diagnose' a fictitious patient with Mono. Students were able to be actively engaged in their learning, not worrying about limited supplies or safety concerns. \r\n\r\nThe students were very happy to be able to have the mini trays to put all of their lab supplies in. This basic object kept the lab counters organized and collection simple. It avoided any confusion of which materials to take and who 'took what. scenarios. \r\n\r\nThough these items that were purchased were 'basic' and replacements of consumables we use often, without you, we would not have been able to conduct these labs and future labs.
