I cannot express in words how grateful I am, how surprising and humbling it is, that people like you and this little website called DonorsChoose keep supporting the needs of children, time after time, project after project.\r\n\r\nThe protein bars--these have been a hit! I am finally almost out of them, now, two months later. And, yeah, some of my students have complained that they \"taste healthy\" or lack the pure sugar rush of something like a nutri-grain bar or traditional granola bar. But overall, the students are loving that they can pop in between classes to grab a snack, or snag one at the beginning of class to tide them over until lunch.\r\n\r\nAnd the books have also been a success! In my senior class, I had one reading circle group choose \"I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter\" to read, and one bilingual student read in Spanish (which my school has a *ton* of already) while the others read the English version you so graciously funded. Their conversations about differences between the English and Spanish translation were interesting to eavesdrop upon. \"Ducks\" did not make into a reading group, but two individual students have read it so far (it lives in my classroom library now). One loved it--she devours any graphic novel--and the other, when I asked it it was good, said, \"It wasn't for me, but someone like you with a big vocabulary would probably enjoy it.\" That second student is a shy sophomore, and I'm lucky if I can get a one-word answer from her most days in class; thank you, donors, for providing a book that (even if she didn't like it) prompted A WHOLE SENTENCE! That was great to experience.","fullyFundedDate":1756249567112,"projectUrl":"project/books-bites/9579236/","projectTitle":"Books & Bites","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Bullock","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4615923_orig.jpg?crop=1148,1148,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755264771477","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bullocksrules"},{"teacherId":4742337,"projectId":9264801,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your recent support of our classroom. Your generous contribution has provided our students with the resources they need to transform our school newspaper into a vibrant hub of storytelling and learning. We wanted to share a brief update on the incredible impact your gift is having.\r\n\r\nYour support has allowed us to integrate digital tools into our project-based learning curriculum, which is designed to teach real-world skills. While our donors may be experts in using technology at home, they may not be aware of how it's used to help students learn. This technology is not just for typing; it's a powerful way to engage students in critical thinking, writing, and visual communication. Instead of passively receiving information, students are now actively creating it. They are learning to conduct interviews, write compelling articles, and use digital photography to tell the stories of their peers and community. These are the kinds of skills they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.\r\n\r\n\r\nWhat our students are most excited about is the newfound ability to make their voices heard. The technology allows them to design and publish a professional-quality newspaper, complete with stunning photographs that capture the emotion of a school event or the personality of a classmate. The ability to see their work published online and shared with the entire school community has been incredibly motivating. For them, it's no longer just a class assignment; it's a real, tangible product that they are proud to share with their families and friends.\r\n\r\nStudents who have especially warmed to this new technology:\r\nWe've seen some amazing individual stories of students who have thrived with this technology. One student, who was previously very shy and quiet in class, has found her passion in photography. With the new camera and editing software, she has become our lead photojournalist, capturing powerful images that truly bring the articles to life. Another student, who has always loved to write but struggled with traditional assignments, has become a masterful digital storyteller, using the newspaper's platform to write long-form pieces on topics he cares deeply about, gaining confidence that we haven't seen before.\r\n\r\nYour support has not only provided our classroom with new tools, but it has also empowered our students to find their voices and discover new talents. Thank you again for being such an important partner in our students' education.","fullyFundedDate":1746787244107,"projectUrl":"project/capturing-stories-cameras-for-human-con/9264801/","projectTitle":"Capturing Stories: Cameras for Human Connection.","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Werve","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4742337_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1504152197542","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/elissa-fitzgerald"},{"teacherId":576778,"projectId":9195573,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our Week of Hope, Week of Cope! \r\nFor an entire week, our high school of 980 students got to focus on mental health. \r\nWe had announcements about taking care of yourself, we had coloring activities, we had bingo, we had therapy dogs, we had arts/crafts, a calming station, we had gatherings. Recently, I've been using new classroom resources in exciting ways, particularly incorporating snacks as part of our learning activities. For instance, I've noticed a positive shift since I started providing snacks for students who arrive in the morning without breakfast or as an incentive during classroom games. \r\n\r\nA specific moment that stands out was during a vocabulary activity we had. I used snacks as rewards for the students who answered the questions correctly in a set amount of time. Not only did the snacks serve as a great motivator, but I also saw an increase in overall engagement—students were more alert and focused, likely due to having something to eat to keep their energy up. \r\n\r\nThis approach has really helped improve classroom dynamics. Students are more eager to participate in activities, and I've seen fewer distractions. With the added energy from snacks, they are better able to concentrate, leading to more productive and enjoyable learning sessions.","fullyFundedDate":1733438464608,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-snack-and-light-squad/8645573/","projectTitle":"Classroom Snack and Light Squad","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Werve","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4742337_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1504152197542","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/elissa-fitzgerald"},{"teacherId":9474549,"projectId":8710543,"letterContent":"As we move into our second semester my students are hard at work learning Lego terminology (Brick, Plate, Tile, slopes, Technic and more) and organizing the myriad of pieces to be used in the coming weeks.
